Mawriya medicine has been in use even in the Royal Place since the time of King Mindon and the formula had been safeguarded in the custody of Prince Sagu. With the changing times, the formula was handed over to Royal Physician Saya Khaing Gyi, from whom it was obtained by his grandson, Principal of school, Traditional Medicine Practitioner U Ba Htay who distributed it under the name "Mawriya".
In Sakarit 1224, in the reign of Myanmar King, it was use to cure swollen sores and handed down through generations and due to widespread demand the supply was increased.
Now, after almost 150 years, ancient formula and tradition have been maintained although the original packing in paper sachets has given way to plastic bags since 1997.
At the Myanmar Traditional Medicine and Products Exhibition in 2002 it was redesigned, while maintaining the original efficacy for long use. Packing of 100 tablets in sachets of 10, and a large carton containing 50 sachets were simultaneously introduced.
Then, for treatment of sores, child ailments, gynecological ailments, bone, nerve and miscellaneous complaints, the "Mawriya Myanmar" Special Traditional Medicine House has been opened and treatment provided using traditional medicine.
